Taihu Lake, located at the junction between Jiangsu and Zhejiang and at the south of Yangtze River delta, enjoys blue mountain and green waters, packed with strong southern China flavor. The wide Taihu Lake scatters across 48 islands which, together with peaks and peninsulas along the way, are named as 72 Peaks. These peaks come from Tianmu Mountain in Zhejiang, some stopping at the lakeside and some stretching into the lake, thus forming a natural picture with water and mountains integrated. Dongting West Mountain with the floor area of 62.5 kilometers at the south of the Lake turns out to be the largest and most beautiful island of Taihu Lake, opposite to Dongting East Mountain. The West Mountain takes up 41 out of the total 72 peaks in Taihu Lake. Hidden Peak at the center of the main peak is also named as Yaomiao Peak with an altitude of 336 meters. Besides temples and summer resorts, the great priority has been given to the natural beauty such as autumn moon and plum flower and snow. In addition, the odd stones and rocks on the western mountain, various caves, and crystal Taihua Lake stone have beautified the whole island. Dongting East Mountain at the east of Taihu Lake with the steeple of the main peak as one of the 72 peaks, includes many famous historical sites such as the clay figure at Zijin Nunnery made in Song Dynasty, Xuanyuan Palace in Yuan Dynasty, brick gateway in Ming Dynasty as well as the modern flower-pattern building etc. The best of the famous historic sites in Taihu Lake gathers at the north bank of Taihu Lake among which the Tortoise Head Garden and Lihu Lake are the most beautiful.
