Huaqing Pool is located at the foot of north Lishan Hill in Lintong, leaning against Wei River in the north and about 30 kilometers from the city of Xi'an, and enjoys quite favorable geographical location boasting green mountains and blue water. Therefore, it won the appreciation of emperors in history. In ancient time, Huaqing Pool has been the famous place of interest around Chang’an. From King You of the Western Zhou Dynasty who had the Li palace built to Tang Dynasty with its name changing from “Lishan Tang (Lishan Hot Spring), “Li Palace” to “Hot Spring Palace”. Emperor Xuan Zong had a walled palace built around the Lishan Mountain and it was known as Huaqing Palace. It also had the name “Huaqing Pool” but decayed from Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. After the establishment of People’s Republic of China, expansion work has been carried out based on the formation in Tang Dynasty and thus it becomes what it is now.

The present-day site is only a small part of the original Huaqing Palace in Tang Dynasty. Huaqing Pool which we see today was rebuilt on the site of the Qing Dynasty structure, totaling 85,560 square meters. The scenic spot is composed of the bathing area in the east, gardening area in the west and relic protection area in the south, among which the bathing area in the east include the high-class bath-fitting site such as Shangshi Pool, Shaoyang Pool, Chang Pool and Surfing Bathing, and the gardening area in the west features the main Frost Drifting Hall full of appealing majesty, the symmetrical Yichun Hall and the relic preservation area in the north part exhibiting the unearthed relics.

In this area there are four hot springs, inside one stone-made cave is the round pool with radius of one meter. The water there is clear and vapors rises slowly with the murmuring sound of flowing water under your feet. They have a flow of 112 tons with a constant temperature of 43 degree all the year round. The spring water in not only good for bathing but severs as a good way to treat diseases such as arthritis and dermatosis.

Digging further inside the area of Huaqing Palace, we have unearthed the only royal pool and one earliest royal art academy in Chinese history and built up the Museum of Imperial Pool Site of Tang Dynasty, Pear Garden Art Gallery of Tang Dynasty. The rich and profuse relic material fully present the 6,000 years of bathing history and 3,000 years of royal garden history of Huaqing Pool.
