Located at the depth of Badain Jaran Desert, 210km from the northeast of Jiuquan City, the Jiuquan Satellite launch Center is the earliest and largest satellite launch center of China. It also serves as the comprehensive launch field for various types of carrier rockets and rocketsonde, and boasts the complete and reliable launch facilities that can launch larger inclined media and lower-orbit satellites. Since its establishment in 1958, it has given birth to eight Firsts for the development of space industry of China; on April 21, 1970, the Chinese first man-made satellite was launched here; on November 26, 1975, the first recoverable man-made satellite was launched here; on May 18, 1980, the first long-distance carrier rocket was launched here towards the scheduled airspace above the Pacific Ocean. On September 20, 1981, it is the first time when three satellites were launched here to the sky by using one rocket…; presently, the Jiuquan Satellite launch Center has already launched altogether 21 scientific experimental satellites among which include eight recoverable satellites with success ratio of 100%. Serving as one of the three great satellite launch bases of China, the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center has opened some of famous scenic spots to the public as follows: Satellite Launch Site, Aerospace Command and Control Center, Long March No.2 Rocket, Test Center, Satellite Launch Center Site Exhibition Hall, Cemetery of Revolutionary Martyrs, Dongfeng Reservoir and Desert Euphrates Poplar Forest etc. |
