Located 70 km away from the southwest of Dunhuang City of Gansu, Yangguan Pass is established during the reign of the Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty. Yangguan is key pass along the southern part of the Silk Road as well as the door for the communication between western countries and China. Yangguan Pass become famous across the world, with two lines in the poem written by Wang Wei in Tang Dynasty, namely “This moves us again to urge on (each other) one more cup of wine, West towards Yangguan there will be no more old friends” making the pass more appealing. Yangguan region enjoys special natural landscape, abundant historical relics as well as profound cultural content. Yangguan Museum, established in 2003, aims at digging up ancient culture and developing new culture. The Museum locates at 800 meters at the north of Han Beacon of Dundun Mountain inside the Dunhuang Yangguan Relic Scenic Spot with the floor area of 100,000m2. It is composed of a group of delicate Han-style constructions. The Museum made a comprehensive employment of various artistic techniques such as construction, relic exhibition, carving, fresco and environment design and systematically demonstrated the historical state of two passes (Yangguan and Jade Gate Passes) and Silk Road as well as the profound historical cultural connotations. In a word, Yangguan Museum turns out to be one modernized novel museum by integrating natural history, relic preservation, research and tourism into a whole. Yangguan Cultural Relics Tourist Spot is abundant in connotation and unique in landscape. Besides the Museum, the Spot includes Gudong Desert (relic of Yangguan Pass), Tang Shouchang City (Hanlongle County), Hanwo Pool, South Route of Silk Road, Green Island of Nanhu Lake, Arguin Snow Mountain as well as natural landscape in the desert such as Desert Forest Park. The well integration of both natural and human landscape provides visitors with more enjoyment and pleasures. |
